This project explores feelings of shame, queerness, alienation, and his experiences of Japanese culture in Australia. He uses the motif and visual language of the doll to articulate personal identities. His use of cute imagery aims to connect abstract personal perspectives to social roles in society. These feelings are transformed into pseudo-products that connect to the commodification of identity, and Japanese consumerism culture.
This part of the doll project focused on the history of mass produced dolls. The industrial revolution brought about the ability for mass printing, and enabled paper dolls into circulation.
